Once your student joins the Zoom meeting for their Online Essay session, they’ll be placed in a waiting room. The proctor will begin letting students in right at the scheduled start time for the session.
When your student is let into the session, they’ll only be able to see the proctor and themselves. No other student will see them and they won’t see the other students.
They’ll need to make sure that their camera is turned on, they share their screen and they can hear the proctor.
The student will not need to use a mic during the session. All students will remain muted throughout the session. As long as they can hear the proctor they are all set.
Troubleshooting
If your student is using a school computer we’d highly recommend changing devices. Schools often place permission limits on these computers that will prevent the student’s audio from working which can only be unlocked by a school network administrator.
- Check the volume level on your device
- Test your audio in Zoom
- In the Zoom meeting, find the audio button
- Click the up arrow
- Click “Test speaker and Microphone”
- When the speaker is tested you will hear a tone.
- If you cannot hear it, select a different speaker from the drop-down menu
- Try a different browser
- Test your audio in a different application
- If it works in the other application, there’s likely a permissions issue
- Check your privacy permissions
- Disable any parental control settings/apps
- Follow these instructions to ensure Zoom has the correct permissions
- Go through Zoom’s troubleshooting list
